Washington D.C.
Culberson Statement on Trump Signing FOSTA into Law
News Release
Thursday, April 12, 2018

Washington, D.C. – Representative John Culberson (TX-07), Chairman of the Commerce, Justice, and Science Subcommittee on Appropriations (CJS), released the following statement after President Trump signed the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA) into law Wednesday.

“Every single American deserves to feel safe and be free. That’s why I cosponsored the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act of 2017 in the House, and will continue to fight the scourge of human trafficking every day. This year, I succeeded in securing over $600 million in my CJS bill to fight human trafficking, prevent violence against women, and support missing and exploited children programs. Since taking over as Chairman of CJS, I have increased funding for anti-human trafficking grants by 82 percent.

“This new anti-trafficking law is another victory that will empower victims to have a pathway to justice, and will ensure traffickers can no longer be protected by safe havens or legal loopholes.”
