Senator Borris Miles Hosts Successful Internship and Job Fair
Press Release
Friday, April 13, 2018

Over 200 students were offered internship and employment positions on the spot!

Job FairSenator Borris L. Miles hosted a successful Internship and Job Fair for high school students with Fort Bend Independent School District (Fort Bend ISD) and Stafford Municipal School Distrt (Stafford MSD). The fair was held at the Houston Community College (HCC) - Missouri City Campus.

"I am so proud of the students who attended my first Internship and Job Fair," said Senator Miles. "These students were prepared, dressed in professional attire and were ready to compete! They impressed the employers at the event so much that many made offers to them on the spot! In total, 150 jobs and 75 internships were offered to students at the fair! The administrators, teachers and parents of these students should be very proud."

A recent national survey of students and employers found that students need to begin to focus on their careers in high school to compete for internships and future jobs. The study also found that 90 percent agreed that high school internship programs can help students get into better colleges. Of the students that participate in internships, the study found that 89 percent of employers said students will have a competitive advantage when looking for a college internship or full-time job, and 83 percent said those internships will yield better-paying jobs.

"I met with many students, many of which did not know that these opportunities were available to them. I am very proud to help students from my district take the very first step toward a successful career," said Senator Miles.

Senator Borris Miles spearheaded the Fort Bend Internship and Job Fair in coordination with HCC, Fort Bend ISD, Stafford MSD and Texas Workforce Solutions. Over 75 employers attended and had 150 internship and 500 summer, temporary or full-time positions available. Over 300 students from Stafford, Willowridge, Thurgood Marshall, Progressive, Hightower, Kempner and Ridge Point High Schools attended the event.
