News Release
Monday, April 16, 2018

Beaumont, Texas – St. Michael Orthodox Church is hosting the 10th Annual St. Michael Mediterranean Festival Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. at St. Michael Orthodox Church at 690 N. 15th Street. A ribbon cutting ceremony, performed by Mayor Becky Ames at 10:45 a.m., will celebrate the ten-year milestone of the festival.

The Mediterranean Festival will feature authentic food and entertainment throughout the day. The Bazaar will include ethnic clothing, jewelry, spices, and more, offering a glimpse into the diverse cultures of the Mediterranean. Church tours will be held to explore the Orthodox church, offering a look into the architecture and faith. Enjoy camel rides, a petting zoo, bungee jump, a rockwall and two live shows by Sonny “The Birdman.” The children’s area will also include face painting and arts and crafts.

“We are thrilled to be in the tenth year of hosting this festival,” said festival chairman, Georgia Vasilakis. “The opportunity to showcase our culture and it be celebrated by people all over the city, is a true testament to the Beaumont community. Without their support, the Mediterranean Festival would not be as successful as it is today.”

The Mediterranean cruise raffle includes a Royal Caribbean Cruise stopping in Kotor, Montenegro-Corfu, Athens, Mykonos and Argostolti. The trip includes round trip airfare from Houston, Texas to Venice, Italy. The cruise arrangement is based on an ocean-view cabin sailing in October. Travel can be anytime from May 6, 2018 to May 1, 2019. Raffle tickets are $25 each.

A donation will be made from the proceeds to benefit The Arc of Greater Beaumont, an organization serving those with intellectual and developmental disabilities to grow, develop and live in communities across the nation.

Experience the Mediterranean culture through food, music and dance at the St. Michael Mediterranean Festival. Tickets are available at Abbie’s Imports at 5335 Fannett Rd. and will be available at the event.  Enter to win a festival package at for $30 in food tickets, a Mediterranean cruise raffle ticket and one t-shirt.
