City of Katy leaders featured at April Katy Area EDC GA

Though not yet officially open for the season, Typhoon Texas Waterpark was bustling with activity on Tuesday, April 17 as it played hosted to the April Katy Area Economic Development Council General Assembly meeting.  Members and guests filled the waterpark’s event center to hear presentations from City of Katy leaders and David Loesch of Katy Wild West Brewfest.

City of Katy officials in attendance included Mayor Chuck Brawner, City Administrator Byron Hebert and Director of Tourism, Marketing & Public Relations Kayce Reina.  The trio shared updates on a variety of projects taking place in Katy ranging from the Katy Boardwalk project to the multi-million-dollar renovation underway at Katy Mills Mall.  Also discussed was the ongoing improvements to Katy area infrastructure to mitigate flooding.  As part of efforts to mitigate flooding risks in the city, a bond election will be held on May 5 which would provide the city with funds focused on flood mitigation measures.

David Loesch, Katy Rotary President and Wild West Brewfest leader, discussed the upcoming Wild West Brewfest which is set for May 4 and 5 at Katy Mills Mall and organized by Katy Rotary Club. The event, which will feature over 100 craft brewers, has become a premier event for beer enthusiasts throughout Texas and the country. New members introduced at the meeting included Allegiance Bank which upgraded to the Board of Governors level and TeleFlex Networks at the Strategic Partner level.  Atwell Group, BHGRE – Gary Greene, DNV-GL, Rowland Construction, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company and TXU Energy were announced as new Associate members.

Membership renewals recognized included Board of Governors Memorial Hermann – Katy and Caldwell Companies, and Associate members Amazing Place, Ezra Joel, Skybox Data Centers and Wolf Companies.  Foley Gardere, LLP was reintroduced following its company name change from Gardere Wynne, Sewell, LLP.

Typhoon Texas and Amazing Place served as breakfast sponsors for the event. Typhoon Texas, a waterpark, is a leading entertainment destination for family fun in the Greater Houston area. Amazing Place is an organization specializing in memory care offering community education, caregiver classes, the memory cafe and counseling in the Katy area.
