Galveston County
City of Friendswood
News Release
Saturday, April 21, 2018

Friendswood residents who suffered flood damage to their homes are invited to an informational meeting, Tuesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Courtroom at the Public Safety Building, 1600 Whitaker Dr.

The City’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program consultant and other City officials will present details about home buyouts, elevation assistance, and mitigation reconstruction. Harvey-affected residents are encouraged to bring their specific questions. Residents will not be required to make any decisions or commitments at the meeting.

Separate from the above individual assistance programs, the City and other partners are working on three large-scale flood mitigation projects: $1 million for clearing and desnagging Clear Creek was approved by Friendswood City Council at their April meeting. The South Belt Storm Water Detention project (Mud Gully) is also ongoing, and drainage is being improved in a tributary under West Shadowbend Avenue and West Spreading Oaks.

Additionally, City Staff have identified all of the streets which were covered by Harvey floodwaters for multiple days. They will present a drainage desilting plan to Council this summer.
