Board of Trustees of the Galveston Wharves

The Board of Trustees of the Galveston Wharves today voted unanimously to make an amendment to Board Management Policy.

The amendment grants the port director the authority to make offers to new hires with salaries up to $150,000 instead of $200,000. 

The board voted unanimously to accept Economic Development Grant Agreements with the Industrial Development Corporation of the City of Galveston with respect to grant awards in the amount of $1,145,000.

The board voted unanimously to accept the Port Parking Operations Audit Review.

The board voted unanimously to accept the 2017 Audited Galveston Wharves Pension Plan Annual Financial Report for the year ending December 31, 2017.

The board voted unanimously to accept the actuarial valuation of the Galveston Wharves Pension Plan as of January 1, 2018.

The board voted unanimously to accept the Portfolio Performance Analysis Report, Summary of Investment Performance Report and Investment Detail of the Galveston Wharves Pension Plan for the period ending March 31, 2018.

Aside from no action taken on an item pertaining to a sick and vacation policy for port employees, all other agenda items were approved unanimously.

The board listened to a presentation made by Colonel Lars N. Zetterstrom with the United States Army Corps of Engineers earlier in the meeting.

The board recognized Finance Director Mark Murchison on receiving the GFOA Certificate of Achievement.

The board presented service awards to port employees. The following employees were honored:

  • Peter Simons
  • Cristina Gallego
  • J.W. Jennings
  • Tony Salazar
  • Branko Gligoric
  • Nancy Hansen
  • Robert Leski
  • Philip Tamayo
  • David Jimenez

This was the first meeting of the wharves board at Galveston City Hall. The body is meeting here on a six-month trial basis.
