Washington D.C.
News Release
Friday, April 27, 2018

Washington, D.C. – On Friday, April 27, 2018, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4, The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act. Included in the measure is the Disaster Recovery Reform Act (DRRA). The legislation passed with overwhelming bipartisan support by a vote of 393 to 13. After the vote, Congressman Randy Weber (R – Friendswood) released the following statement:

“Today is a big day for infrastructure. With the FAA Reauthorization Act, we are upgrading our aviation infrastructure, bolstering our cybersecurity plan, and streamlining the certification and regulation process.

“Additionally, the Disaster Recovery Reform Act focuses on the importance of sound infrastructure and pre-disaster mitigation. Last year brought too many devastating disasters. As a nation, we are still reeling from their impact and working to recover and rebuild. In my district, and all around Texas, there is still a lot of work to be done in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The DRRA shores up the way our country responds to natural disasters. The best thing we can do in preparation is invest in pre-disaster mitigation. With better infrastructure and resources developed before disaster strikes – and being from the Gulf Coast, we know natural disasters are an unfortunate part of life – we will be better able to respond and recover more quickly.

“Improvements to infrastructure are critical for our nation’s future.”
