ACC Board Moves Forward with Road Project

The Alvin Community College Board of Regents voted to proceed with a project that would allow the City of Alvin to construct a road between the college campus and Briscoe Park.

Regents voted unanimously to pursue a Memorandum of Understanding so the city can fund and build an emergency access road starting on the college campus by Building T and directly leading to Briscoe Park. The city will pay the construction costs.

In other action, the board authorized funding to T&R Mechanical for HVAC services on campus.

The board also heard a report on the accreditation reaffirmation process and the Career Pathways initiative during the meeting. College staff are currently creating a monitoring report regarding program assessments which is due in September to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

The college is also currently implementing Career Pathways to meet the state’s 60x30 TX mandate. The program is a comprehensive strategy to assist students in identifying and pursuing a career.

At the start of the meeting, Biology instructor Dwight Rhodes presented the ACC Police Department with two new bicycles to be used for the police’s bike patrol. The bicycles were donated by the Tour De Braz Bike Club.

The board also:

-approved adjustment to Dual Credit waiver

-approved contract for renters liability insurance

-approved changes to international student fees

-heard a report on grant projects on campus

-approved monthly financial reports

-approved changes to local board policy

-approved adjustment to Wagner-Peyser grant proposal

The board will have its next meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 in the Nolan Ryan Center.
