Washington D.C.
Culberson Statement on DOJ Action at Southwest Border
News Release
Friday, May 04, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Culberson (TX-07) released the following statement following Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ announcement of the dedication of additional prosecutors and immigration judges to address the crisis at the Southwest border.

“Respect for the rule of law is a hallmark of our democracy, and I strongly support individuals who want to come to our country legally. As Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science (CJS), I am extremely invested in ensuring that our federal law enforcement officers have the resources they need to protect every family in America.

“The Department of Justice’s (DOJ) actions are a direct result of increased funding for Assistant United States Attorney and Immigration Judges, which I included in my bill in my capacity as Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science (CJS). My bill provides funding for DOJ to add an additional 100 Immigration Judge teams this year alone, as well as legislative language directing these funds to be used for securing the southern border.

“I thank Attorney General Jeff Sessions for these actions and look forward to my continued work with DOJ to prioritize our nation’s security.”
