News Release
Tuesday, May 08, 2018

HOUSTON – Houston BCycle will offer free rides from each of its 60 Houston-area bike share stations on Bike to Work Day, Friday, May 18th, 2018. With the support of their official healthcare partner, CHI St. Luke’s Health, Houston BCycle’s promotion will go to support Houston’s growing bike community on an internationally-celebrated bike advocacy day.

“We’re thrilled to offer everyone a chance to use bike sharing on Bike to Work Day,” said Henry Morris, Marketing & Communications Manager at Houston BCycle. “Since launching our partnership with CHI St. Luke's Health, our riders have been collectively burning millions of calories each month on our bikes. We hope that a day of free rides will introduce even more people to biking as a healthy, fun, and sustainable transit option."

On May 18th, anyone will be able to walk up to a Houston BCycle kiosk, swipe their credit card to create a guest account, and check out a bike for free by using the promotional code 51818.

While there is no cap on how many times the code can be used, rides that last longer than 30 minutes will incur a $3.00 overage fee for each additional 30-minute period. As always, riders can dock their bikes at any Houston BCycle station to end their trip.

Houston BCycle’s free trips will also support those attending City of Houston's official Bike to Work Day event on Friday the 18th. With opening remarks beginning at 7:00 AM, attendees will embark on a 20 minute, 3-4 mile celebratory bike ride to begin and end at Hermann Square in front of City Hall–which has its own Houston BCycle station.

Additionally, in celebration of National Bike Month, anyone who signs up for a Houston BCycle Monthly Membership in May will have their access extended to the end of June at no extra cost. Memberships are available for $9.00 through the BCycle mobile app or on Houston BCycle’s website.

“By offering our memberships at such an affordable rate, we're hoping to convince folks to replace some or all of their single-occupancy car trips with bike rides," said Doogie Roux, Director of Operations at Houston BCycle. "Around 3,000 people have already signed up in 2018, and our goal is to keep building on that excitement.”

Houston BCycle Members are offered unlimited 60-minute-or-less bike share rides throughout the entire network of stations. Annual access is available for $99.00.

“As we continue to grow our network from 60 stations to 100-plus stations over the next two years, we look forward to seeing increased use of bike sharing in Houston as a legitimate transit option,” said Doogie Roux, Director of Operations at Houston BCycle. “We're honored to continue playing a role in Houston's growing bike landscape."

Houston BCycle is a 60-station bike share program in Houston, Texas, operated by Houston Bike Share, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Houston BCycle’s mission is to provide equitable access to bike share that fosters recreation, mobility and personal wellness. We envision a Houston where everyone has access to a bike for work, play and transportation. Visit or @HoustonBCycle on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for more information.

Chi St. Luke’s Health is the Official Healthcare Sponsor of Houston BCycle. Each bicycle in the bike share system’s 425-bike network directs riders to the hospital’s recently-launched series of “5-Day Health Challenges.” CHI St. Luke’s Health’s mission of creating healthier communities goes beyond patient care. As they support the well-being of each of their patients, they also encourage everyone to lead a balanced lifestyle. Houston BCycle and CHI St. Luke’s Health are proud to partner toward a healthier Houston.
