Washington D.C.
WEBER STATEMENT ON WITHDRAWING FROM IRAN DEAL
News Release
Tuesday, May 08, 2018

Washington, D.C. – On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, President Donald Trump announced the United States is withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, more commonly known as the Iran Deal. After the announcement, Congressman Randy Weber (R – Friendswood) released the following statement:

“I applaud the President for his decision to withdraw from the Iran Deal. It was a bad deal in 2015, and it remains a bad deal today. It is illogical to believe an agreement would ever temper Iran’s desire to develop a nuclear weapons arsenal.

“There has never been a reason to believe the regime would act in good faith. To this day, their rhetoric is inflammatory. Their funding of terrorist organizations and military proxies is constant and deliberately designed to foment unrest. Iran’s aggression extends to its own people through imprisonment, torture, and public murder of those who disagree with the Ayatollah and his regime.

“By withdrawing from the deal and re-imposing sanctions, this Administration will now strategically target and pressure the Iranian regime, no longer allowing Iran to believe it is immune to consequences.”
