Dickinson Police Department
News Release
Wednesday, May 09, 2018

At about 8:00 am Tuesday morning, May 8, 2018, Dickinson Police Department received a call of an injured person on the ground at Paul Hopkins Park located in the 1100 block of FM 517.  Officers arrived and found a 59 year old male with a gunshot wound to the head.   The male was alive but unresponsive, and was subsequently transported by Dickinson EMS to Clear Lake Hospital.   The investigation by patrol officers and detectives determined the injury was self-inflicted.  No other person(s) is believed to be involved at this time.  Family members from out of state have been contacted and notified.   The male was listed in critical condition.

Dickinson Police Department does not usually release information publicly regarding suicide attempts.  The department is releasing this information because the investigation took place in a public location and to prevent the circulation of inaccurate information.
