Brazoria County
Pearland City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, May 15, 2018

Pearland City Council, in a special meeting on Monday, voted unanimously to adopt a resolution canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the May 5 Election.

Council Member Derrick Reed was sworn into office for another term by Judge Dennis Slate.

The city council voted unanimously to order a runoff election for June 16 for the purpose of electing a council member to Position 4.

Adrian Hernandez and Dalia Kasseb will be on the ballot.

No other action items were on the special meeting agenda. Agenda

During the regular meeting, the city council voted to award a $99,000 contract to COP Stop for the purchase of 165 sets of rifle-resistant body armor. The purchase will be funded through the Office of the Governor's Criminal Justice Division 2018 Rifle-Resistant Armor Grant Program.

The city council voted to renew an office lease with CBL Properties for the lease of office space for the Convention and Visitors Bureau at the Pearland Town Center.

The city council voted to adopt a resolution denying the Distribution Cost Recovery Factor rate decrease proposed by CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC.

CenterPoint is decreasing the rate due to the Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017. However, cities in the service area are denying the decrease, challenging that the decrease should be larger.

The city council voted to adopt a resolution suspend the effective date of a proposed Gas Reliability Infrastructure Program rate increase by CenterPoint Energy Resources Corporation, Texas Coast Division, for 45 days.

All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with all members present at the meeting. Agenda
