Galveston City Council, in a special meeting today, voted unanimously to approve an ordinance canvassing the results of the May 5 Election.

The results of the election remained unchanged following a count of provisional ballots by Galveston County. David Collins defeated incumbent Frank Thomas Maceo for District 3 by a five-vote margin. Jackie Cole unseated District 6 incumbent Carolyn Sunseri.

Inbument Mayor Jim Yarbrough and council members Amy Bly, Craig Brown and newly-elected council member Jason Hardcastle were unopposed.

The city council voted unanimously to schedule a runoff election for June 16 for District 5. The race had included four candidates on May 5. John Paul Listowski and Carol Hollaway are on the runoff ballot. Council Member Terrilyn Tarlton-Shannon will continue to serve in the seat until the runoff election is decided.

The city council voted unanimously to designate JLL Valuation and Advisory Services, LLP as a qualified vendor for the provisions of real estate appraisals required for federally funded projects.

During the meeting, outgoing council members Maceo, Sunseri and Mike Doherty spoke on their time on the city council. Yarbrough also spoke regarding the city's progress under the previous city council. Listen (14:10)

Following the administration of the oath of office, Cole, Collins and Hardcastle took their positions on the city council, and each of the newly-elected and re-elected council members spoke regarding their new terms in office. Listen (7:18)
