Fort Bend County
City to Partner With American Legion Post 294 For Dedication of Veterans Memorial Stone on May 28
News Release
Friday, May 25, 2018

What: A special dedication and unveiling of a veterans memorial stone presented by the Missouri City American Legion Post 294, in partnership with Missouri City. The event is being held in honor and anticipation of the American Legion's centennial celebration, which will kick-off later this year.

When: 10 a.m. Monday, May 28

Where: American Legion Park, 4015 Lexington Blvd.

"We are truly honored that the American Legion Post 294 has chosen a Missouri City Park for this historic designation," Mayor Allen Owen said. "City Council and City leadership have always had a strong commitment to our veterans, testament to our longstanding plans for a Veterans Memorial. We are honored this Memorial Day to pay tribute to our area veterans and welcome the community to join this celebration and dedication ceremony."

In addition to the memorial stone being donated to the City by the American Legion, in November 2017, City officials announced that the 501c3 Missouri City Parks Foundation was moving forward with its first strategic priority, the future Veterans Memorial slated for construction in the City Hall Complex.

"We are thankful that the Parks Foundation saw fit to allow the Veterans Memorial to be the signature and kickoff project for our City Hall placemaking initiative. Efforts are under way now to engage private citizens, foundations and corporate partners to help us achieve our $1.5 million dollar goal," said City Manager Anthony J. Snipes. "The venture will be done in two phases and each will have a project cost of $750,000."
