by Ruth Ann Ruiz
Sunday, June 10, 2018

World Oceans DayArtist Boat celebrated World Oceans Day with their 3rd annual festival at Stewart Beach in Galveston on Friday. Hands-on activities served to inform children and adults about aquatic life and the impact humans have on the ocean. Kendall Guidroz, education program coordinator commented, “It’s exciting to have all these groups out here engaging the people.”

Holding a blue crab, petting a speckled king snake, yoga on the beach, trash recycled into art, tee-shirts recycled into carrying bags were some of the activities available. Adults and children enjoyed the learning environment.

World Oceans Day is an international holiday created by the United Nations to celebrate oceans.   “Every other breath we take is oxygen created from plankton in the ocean and that’s a great reason to celebrate our oceans,” said Executive Director of Artist Boat, Karla Klay.
