Elementary and Primary Education
Houston ISD Board of Education
by Garrett Bryce
Monday, June 25, 2018

The Houston Independent School District Board of Education, in a special meeting today, voted unanimously to adopt the district’s FY2019 Budget.

The budget was approved with amendments. The proposed budget projected revenues totaling $1,997,345,003, and planned expenditures totaling $1,998,483,851, requiring a draw down of the district’s fund balance of $37,100,621, resulting in a projected ending fund balance of $483,945,985.

The budget is based on a property tax rate of $1.04 per $100 for maintenance and operations and $0.1667 per $100 for payments on the district’s bonded indebtedness.

The district is required to purchase attendance credits totaling $272,492,039 under the state’s school finance program, due to being considered a property tax wealthy school district.

The board had failed to approve the budget at its June 14 meeting. State law had required the budget be adopted by June 30. Agenda
