Jefferson County Commissioners Court

Jefferson County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to establish the Orbit Gulf Coast Ethane Reinvestment Zone.

The zone will be located near Nederland, Texas, and will provide for tax incentives for expansion or retention of business in the area and would contribute to economic development.

The commissioners court discussed, but took no action regarding whether the county will participate in a home buy-out program as part of the method of distribution, which will be considered and adopted by the Texas General Land Office and Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission for Hurricane Harvey recovery.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve specifications for bids for emergency debris monitoring services for Jefferson County.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to withdraw the approval of a payment of $40,715 to Josh Schaffer, PLLC due to not being in compliance with the Code of Criminal Procedure article 26.05.

The commissioners court tabled action regarding the appointment of a judge to replace Judge Brad Burnett.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a resolution recognizing Eugene H. Simon for 27 years and 4 months of service to the county and wishing him well in his retirement.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a resolution recognizing Deputy Giles B. Holst for 9 years and 7 months of service as a peace officer in the courthouse as a courthouse security officer and wishing him well in his future endeavors.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a resolution recognizing Correctional Officer Brent K. Smithhart for 29 years and 3 months of dedicated service and wishing him well in his retirement.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a resolution regarding the retirement of Greg Fountain as the county’s emergency management coordinator.
