U.S. OFFICIALS URGED TO ESTABLISH JUNETEENTH A NATIONAL DAY OF OBSERVANCE IN AMERICA
by Rev. Ronald V. Myers, Sr. M.D.
Monday, June 25, 2018

(Belzoni, Mississippi) - Rev. Ronald V. Myers, Sr., M.D., National Juneteenth Holiday Chairman, acknowledges the record number of Juneteenth Celebrations and Flag Raising Ceremonies, uplifting the historic contributions of black veterans to the armed services, across the nation and around the world.

However, Juneteenth continues to be ignored by most of the national media.

President Trump has issued a 2018 statement and the U.S. Senate has unanimously passed their annual 2018 bi-partison resolution recognizing the significance of Juneteenth through the leadership of Senator Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi).

We very much appreciate these annual acknowledgments, but they fall short of our request for Juneteenth to be established as a National Day of Observance in America.

We continue to request S.J.R. 45 (http://www.juneteenth.us/sjr45.html), introduced by former U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-Texas) in 2012, be re-introduced and sponsored by members of the present U.S. Senate, passed and acted on by the U.S. House of Representatives, passed and on to the desk of President Trump for signature, proclamation and/or executive order.

These actions will establish Juneteenth as a National Day of Observance, like Flag Day or Patriot Day in America.

We urge the U.S. Congress and President Trump to take immediate legislative and executive action to establish Juneteenth as a National Day of Observance.
