PetrochemWorks Golf Tournament to Raise $2M for Workforce Development

Regional Industry Leaders to Join Together in Fifth Annual Tournament

HOUSTON – The PetrochemWorks Golf Tournament, one of the largest joint manufacturing and construction industry fundraisers in the greater Houston area, will host the fifth annual tournament on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Wildcat Golf Club. In its history, the tournament has raised $1.6M for workforce development in the Houston Ship Channel region and aims to surpass the $2M milestone with this year’s tournament.

Formerly known as the EHCMA Workforce Development Golf Tournament, this event is a joint effort of the East Harris County Manufacturers Association (EHCMA) and the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and Construction and Maintenance Education Foundation (CMEF).

With many manufacturing employees retiring and the industry continuing to expand, this tournament raises awareness of the expanding skills gap in the petrochemical, construction and contracting industries. Proceeds raised from the golf tournament will benefit student scholarships and technical programs at San Jacinto College, Lee College and Houston Community College. The donations will be critical in helping students who are interested in filling these positions and the local community colleges be equipped to educate and train this capacity of skilled workers.

“Workforce development in the Houston Ship Channel region continues to be a top priority for EHCMA and its many industry partners,” said the PetrochemWorks Golf Tournament Chair Jaime Ortegon. “I love being part of bringing this golf tournament to life every year because it joins industry employees from across the board to raise money to improve the workforce for the next generation.”

The tournament adopted its name from, an informational site connecting students and job seekers to the benefits of working in the thriving petrochemical industry, the education needed, types of jobs and much more.
