State of Louisiana
The Acadian Memorial celebrates the FĂȘte Nationale!
Press Release
Saturday, August 04, 2018

Venez fêter la Fête Nationale des Acadiens avec nous-autres!
Come celebrate the National Day of the Acadians with us!

On August 15 from 9:30am to 3pm, come celebrate with us a very special day for all Acadians, chosen in the 19th century by an assembly of Acadians in Canada for its connection to the Assumption and the Virgin Mary, the patron of the Acadians.

The day begins at 9:30am with our friends at Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site, who always bring along some interesting historical games or artifacts for all ages.

Then stick around at 10am for our monthly genealogy workshop welcoming Dr. Joshua Caffery, the new Director of the Center for Louisiana Studies.   Dr. Caffery will speak about the work of the Center, including the archives and his vision.   Coffee and conversation begin at 9:30am.

We welcome back at 11:15am and 1pm Théâtre Cadien, who have so much fun bringing the mural alive with their monologues in French about important historic Acadian events.

Our Bourré in French was so popular last year that we are bringing it back!

So grab your lunch and join us at 11:30am in the Memorial for a lesson on playing the card game bourré in French.   Then stick around at noon for some fun playing a few rounds with some passionate, well-seasoned players.

To close out the day, we are pleased to welcome back Dr. Mark Rees and his team for their always interesting updates on the Projet Nouvelle-Acadie, New Acadia Project at 1:30pm.

All activities take place at the Acadian Memorial, 121 So. New Market St., St. Martinville.  For more information, including lunch options, visit our web page at or our Facebook page, Acadian Memorial, call us at 337-394-2258 or write us at
