Beaumont City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, August 07, 2018

Beaumont City Council today voted unanimously to approve a contract for grant management services related to Hurricane Harvey. However, the council did not approve a contract with Public Management, but another vendor.

The city council voted unanimously to approve a municipal maintenance agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation.

Under the agreement, the city will perform additional mowing and/or litter control maintenance along certain state routes, such as Interstate Highway 10 and Highway 69.

TxDOT will reimburse the city for three mowing cycles per year at $32.88 per acre and 12 litter cycles per year at $19.55 per acre on a total of 535 acres.

The city council voted unanimously to apply for and receive funding through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program, and to approve an interlocal agreement with Port Arthur and Jefferson County.

The grant will provide a total allocation of $112,976, with $70,059 to be allocated to Beaumont, $25,971 to Port Arthur and $16,946 to Jefferson County.

The city council voted 5-2, with Mike Getz and Audwin Samuel opposed, to execute an earnest money contract and other documents for the sale of a city-owned 40-acre tract of land located near the wastewater treatment facility located at 4900 Lafin Drive.

The city received a cash offer of $80,000 from B&L International, LLC for the property.

The city council voted unanimously to reject all bids received for the application of cement slurry on designated street projects.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
