Shark Bite on Bolivar Peninsula

Bolivar Island, Texas – A beachgoer was bitten on the leg by a shark while swimming off of the second sandbar near Stingray Road the morning of Thursday, August 9th, 2018.

The injury was not life-threatening, and the victim is in stable condition; being treated at UTMB. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and PEMSI responded to the call. For further inquiries, contact Chief Deputy Darrell Isaacks at 409-766-2302.

On Thursday, August 9, 2018, a Galveston Co. Sheriff’s Office deputy was flagged down by a subject that had sustained a shark bite while swimming in Crystal Beach. The 42 year old w/m informed the deputy that he had been swimming by the first sand bar when he felt the bite. He walked to shore and alerted the deputy who then transported him to the EMS station for first aid while awaiting transport to the hospital. Subject is now at UTMB receiving care.
