News Release
Friday, August 17, 2018

BEAUMONT - Lamar Institute of Technology Applied Sciences Instructor Stephanie Lanoue is the recipient of the college’s Employee of the Month award for August.

Lanoue, who was nominated for the prestigious Minnie Stevens Piper Award for Teaching Excellence, has seen a 10-fold increase in student enrollment in her program since she began teaching Biology at LIT in 2006.

Her service-driven approach to education has earned the recognition of peers as well as students.

“Teaching is a calling, not just a job,” she said. “(It’s) a way to make a positive difference and to give back to others in our community – the community that I grew up in and live in today.”

She has received numerous honors and accolades including: the Teaching Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in American Women, Who’s Who in America, National Finalist for Technical Teacher of the Year by the Higher Education Division of the American Technical Educator’s Association and Teacher of the Year for the Alvin Independent School District.

Vidor ISD Freshman Science Teacher Amanda Balla is a former student and said Lanoue’s reach goes far beyond the walls of LIT.

“She is a passionate educator and that passion inspires (her) students to become lifelong learners,” Balla said.

Melissa Armentor, Vice President for Student and Academic Success, said Lanoue’s “unique crime scene investigation (CSI) approach to teaching Anatomy and Physiology has enabled countless numbers of LIT students to achieve their educational goals.”
