Active Shooter Incident at Ben E. Keith Foods Distribution Center Results in Two Fatalities and One Injury; MCPD Is Investigating
News Release
Monday, August 20, 2018

The Missouri City Police Department is continuing its investigation of an active shooter incident that occurred early today at the Ben E. Keith Foods Distribution Center in the 700 block of Cravens Road at about 2:11 a.m.

The suspect, identified by police as employee Kristine Peralez, shot two other employees at the facility. Peralez was apprehended and transported to Memorial Hermann to be treated for a gunshot wound to her upper body. She later died as a result of her injury.

The two victims were Manager Francisco Reyes and Fedencio Janas. Reyes died on the scene and Janas is being treated at Southwest Memorial Hospital for a gunshot wound to his leg.

“When the call came in to the City’s Dispatch center, our officers quickly responded with assistance from area law-enforcement agencies who helped secure the scene,” Chief Mike Berezin said, adding that about 20 to 25 employees were in the facility at the time of the incident. “Subsequently, a SWAT team conducted an extensive search of the building and no additional suspects or victims were discovered.”

“This is the first active shooter situation Missouri City has encountered and we want to assure the public that the shooting did not affect any area outside of the Ben E. Keith facility,” Berezin said. “The scene is completely contained.”

Ben E. Keith is a national distributor that has operated its Gulf Coast division in Missouri City’s Beltway Crossing Business Park since 2013.
