Brazoria County
Pearland City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, August 28, 2018

Pearland City Council on Monday voted unanimously to re-authorize the city's juvenile curfew ordinance.

The ordinance implements a curfew for persons under the age of 17 between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. on any Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, and 12:01 a.m. until 6 a.m. on any Saturday. Curfews are also in effect from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on school days.

The ordinance requires re-authorization every 3 years under state law.

The city council voted 5-2, with Trent Perez and Adrian Hernandez opposed, to consent to the creation of Brazoria County Emergency Services District No. 5 within the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction.

The district would impose an ad valorem tax to provide funds for emergency services in the area.

The city council voted 4-3, with Derrick Reed, Gary Moore and Woody Owens opposed, to approve the annexation of approximately 31.42 acres of land by Brazoria County Municipal Utility District No. 22.

The city council voted 5-2, with Moore and Owens opposed, to authorize the offering of health benefits coverage to city retirees.

During the meeting, the city council held discussions regarding city contract terms.

All other action items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
