Texas Chapter of the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association The Texas Chapter of the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association recently held their 4th annual luncheon hosted by the City of Galveston at the Galveston Island Convention Center.  The meeting is held to tie in with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers- Galveston District to celebrate the collaborative efforts by public and governmental entities to protect the coasts of Texas.  The meeting was opened with remarks from Galveston Mayor, James D. Yarbrough.

Prior to introducing the first speaker Jerry Mohn, President of the Texas Chapter of ASBPA requested a moment of silence in honor of former Texas Senator, Babe Schwartz who had been a fierce advocate of protecting the coastal region of Texas. Babe’s Beach, located West of 61st in Galveston, is named in his honor.

The audience was attentive and asked detailed questions concerning the coastal protection plans. In attendance were municipal staff and elected officials from throughout the Texas Gulf Coast region along with representatives from many engineering firms, various other coastal- related businesses and preservation groups.
