Galveston County Transit District Board of Directors
by John David Suayan
Thursday, August 30, 2018

The Galveston County Transit District Board of Directors on Wednesday voted unanimously to approve a new slate of officers.

The board elected Bobby Hocking as chair, Joe Carothers as vice chair, and Greg Gripon as secretary.

The board voted unanimously to approve a resolution of support for an application for Houston UZA 5307 funds to support the League City Park & Ride in response to the Houston METRO Call for Projects.

The board voted unanimously to recognize former chair Dee Ann Haney for her service.

“I did enjoy my time and hopefully we got a lot of things done during that time,” said Haney, who previously served on the Texas City City Commission.

Quincy Allen, Texas Department of Transportation Houston District Engineer, provided the board with an update on projects on I-45 South and Highway 146.

“We’ve been averaging over a billion dollars of construction left to contract the last couple of years,” said Allen. “The next couple of years may be more than that.”

David Smith, the City of Galveston’s Municipal Garage Director, informed the board of the upcoming shutdown of the Island Express connection service between Galveston and Houston.

Earlier in the meeting, Hocking welcomed new members Jason Hardcastle and Christy Lyons.

The next meeting of the board will be on Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. at the Galveston County Mid-County Annex in Texas City.
