Galveston Park Board of Trustees

The Galveston Park Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve a marketing research proposal from Gray Research Solutions, at a cost of $150,000.

The year-long study will be aimed at understanding seasonal visitation, destination sentiment and how to convert day-trippers to overnight visitors. The scope of the study includes designation immersion, lodging, attractions, visitor intercept, seasonal analysis, focus forums and strategic recommendations.

Trustee Maureen Patton praised the study.

“This has gone through a number of steps and its got such potential for us,” she said.

The board voted 6-0-1,with Jason Worthen abstaining, to renew an agreement with SUP Gulf Coast for beach yoga.

The board voted 6-1, with John Zendt opposed, to approve a proposal for media buying services through Mbuy at a 15 percent commission with a cost of $180,000.

The board voted unanimously to defer action regarding recommendations for the property at 2507 Postoffice as well as award of a contract to Building Galveston, Inc. for construction work at 2507 Postoffice. Staff is to bring back costs of additional work, including facade improvements at the property, which is known as the Mardi Gras Warehouse.

The board voted unanimously to approve a motion to increase the hourly rate to the firm of Mills Shirley to $250 an hour for legal services provided by Carla Cotropia, as discussed in closed session.
