Webster City Council
News Release
Wednesday, September 05, 2018

Webster City Council on Tuesday voted 5-1, with Edward Lapeyre opposed, to propose a property tax rate of $0.34794 per $100 valuation for the 2018 Tax Year.

The city council also scheduled public hearings for September 18 and September 25 to receive public input regarding the proposed tax rate.

The proposed rate exceeds the effective tax rate of $0.32488 per $100 valuation, which would provide revenues equal to those of the previous year, based on existing properties on the tax rolls. If adopted, the rate would be an effective 7.10 percent increase.

The city council voted unanimously to approve, on first reading, an ordinance abolishing the Department of Emergency Management as a department, and placing it under the Fire Department.

The city council voted unanimously to approve an interlocal agreement with the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area.

The city council voted unanimously to award a contract to Magna Flow Environmental Services for storm and sanitary sewer maintenance.

The city council voted unanimously to approve a letter of engagement with Hunton Andrews Kurth as discussed in closed session regarding the matter of Mary Jeanette Jackson Hunnicut and Clifford A. Jackson vs. The City of Webster and Betsy Giusto in the 190th Judicial District Court of Harris County.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. Council Member Jennifer Heidt was absent. Agenda
