LIT Foundation to host the Salute to Real American Heroes Event

Beaumont – Lamar Institute of Technology Foundation will honor Southeast Texas first responders during Hurricane Harvey when it hosts the 17th annual “LIT Salute to the Real American Heroes” event.

W. Nim Kidd, Chief of the Texas Division of Emergency Management will address guests on Thurs., Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Dr. First responders and active military personnel who are in uniform, plus a guest, will be treated to dinner.

All proceeds will go to the LIT Salute to the Real American Heroes Scholarship Endowment, which provides scholarships for LIT students majoring in Criminal Justice, Emergency Medical Technology, Regional Police Academy, Regional Fire Academy and Homeland Security. Dinner will be provided by Cooks 2 Dozen + Inc. and the Sabine Area Restaurant Association.

“We understand that people in our community are asked many times to help others,” said Executive Director of the LIT Foundation Pat Calhoun. “We appreciate the giving nature and outpouring of support received in Southeast Texas.

“But we also know that you hold emergency responders in high regard, and understand the huge impact your contribution will make to this important scholarship,” he said.
