Galveston County Health District assisting in measles investigation
Press Release
Friday, September 07, 2018

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas – Galveston County Health District is assisting in the investigation of potential measles exposure for six county residents.

The Galveston County residents may have been exposed to the highly contagious virus after sharing a plane Aug. 21 and Aug. 22 with a patient who was later diagnosed with measles.

“We have contacted all of the six passengers who may have been exposed and notified them of the risk,” said Dr. Philip Keiser, Galveston County local health authority. “We are checking their vaccination status and monitoring them to see if they develop any symptoms.”

Measles typically begins with high fever, cough, runny nose, rash and red, watery eyes.  Passengers who were exposed to the patient could develop symptoms as late as Sept. 12. The health district will continue to monitor the potential exposure.

“Anyone who develops symptoms of measles should contact their medical provider immediately,” Keiser said. “They should also contact the health district.”
