Tuesday, September 11, 2018

La Marque City Council on Monday voted unanimously to name Council Member Robert Michetich as representative and Council Member Casey McAuliffe as alternate to the Houston-Galveston Area Council General Assembly for 2019.

The city council voted unanimously to approve, on first reading, an ordinance adopting the city's FY2019 Budget.

Per city charter, the budget must be adopted by September 27. The proposed budget is based on a property tax rate of $0.490764 per $100 valuation. The budget projects total revenues of $20,334,361 and expenses of $21,761,245, resulting in an ending fund balance of $18,247,516. Proposed Budget

The city council had voted unanimously to approve a request to change the zoning of property at 3197 Main Street from a Single Family Residential District to a Commercial District. However, the item will be brought back for an official vote, as an ordinance was not drafted for the zone change due to the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended denial of the request.

Michetich said that the item had fallen into “spot zoning” and that there was concern about letters that had been sent to nearby residents. He stated those who had been notified about the request had responded positively.

“After doing my due diligence of it, I'm in support of it today,” Michetich said. Listen (4:45)

The city council voted unanimously to reappoint Larry Walker to the Parks Board.

The city council voted unanimously to cast the city's ballots in favor of electing several members to the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool Board of Trustees.

The city voted to elect West Columbia Alderman Dietrich von Biedenfeld to Place 11, City of Kerville Executive Director of General Operations Kimberly Meismer to Place 12, Johnson County Appraisal District Board Chair Byron Black to Place 13, and Bridge City Mayor David Rutledge to Place 14.

The city council did not hold an executive session. Therefore, no action was taken related to any items to be discussed in closed session.

All other action items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
