Galveston College Board of Regents

The Galveston College Board of Regents on Wednesday voted unanimously to move forward with seeking proposals for new student housing concepts.

The board had rejected proposals made for new facilities due to the proposals exceeding the college's budget for the project.

The board voted to approve a third amendment to the lease agreement with McCoy Corporation for lease of a building and property owned by the college at 7626 Broadway.

The lease was originally entered into in 2012. The amendment will extend the lease an additional 24 months to expire on September 30, 2020.

The board voted to accept the United States Department of Education TRIO – Upward Bound Program Grant Award for project year 2018-2019.

The college is receiving $275,155 for the for the year.

The board voted to appoint Raymond Lewis, Jr. as representative and Karen Flowers as alternate for the 2018 Association of Community College Trustees Leadership Congress.

The board voted to authorize President Dr. Myles Shelton to move forward regarding the purchase of real property, as discussed in closed session.

All action items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Regent Fred Raschke absent. Agenda

During the meeting, the board heard a presentation from students in the college's STEM Honors Program regarding a student trip and research project in Costa Rica. The trip was funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation.
