Brazoria County
Press Release
Monday, September 17, 2018

Brazoria County Commissioners’ Court approved the 2019 budget on September 11, 2018, which includes a tax rate decrease. This year’s budget process included multiple days of public hearings where county departments presented budget needs to Commissioner Court members. Budget requests were then discussed and considered. County Judge Matt Sebesta stated, “We want to be good stewards of the county funds, so we, Commissioners’ Court, take this process very seriously.” Sebesta continued to say, “We are pleased once again to be able to provide the residents of Brazoria County with a reduction in the tax rate.” The current rate (2018) is at $0 .4402, and the newly adopted rate will be $0.4279, which is the effective tax rate. Since 2015, Commissioners’ Court has lowered the tax rate from $0.49850 (2015) to $0.4279 (2019) a decrease of over $0.07

“Due to an increase in county growth, additional positions have been included in the 2019 budget”, reported County Auditor Connie Garner. Garner stated, “The new positions include law enforcement, as well as positions for other departments which will allow the county to better serve the citizens of Brazoria County.” Also included in the 2019 budget, is a cost of living raise of 2.13% for county employees and a step increase for eligible employees. The new budget and tax rate goes into effect on October 1, 2018.
