Event will focus on improving walkability and biking in Houston



HOUSTON – Rice University's Kinder Institute for Urban Research and LINK Houston will host the first Street Safety Summit from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 27 to provide practical, relatable examples of how Houston can improve walkability and biking in the city.

WHAT: Street Safety Summit.

WHEN: 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 27.

WHERE: Leonel Castillo Community Center, 2101 South St., Houston.

The event will build on recent research reports about pedestrian and bicyclist safety from LINK Houston, Bike Houston and the Kinder Institute. Local and national experts will share ideas and best practices on a variety of topics including campaigns, local government budgeting, public-private partnerships, coalition building and design implementation. There will also be an optional walking tour around the Northside community near the event location.


Rice will also release a report about transportation and safety concerns in Houston's Gulfton neighborhood that day. The report will be available online at
