ACC Regents Approve Tax Rate

Alvin Community College regents unanimously approved the 2018-19 fiscal year tax rate during their meeting on September 20.

The new rate of 18.77 cents per $100 of property value is a 6.85 percent increase over previous year’s rate. The tax rate includes the Maintenance and Operations rate of 17.18 cents and the voter-approved debt rate of 1.59 cents.

Regents approved the 2018-19 fiscal year budget in August.

In other action, the board approved a contract with ACGM Inc. to provide construction management services for the college. Regents approved $25 million in maintenance tax notes in August to make much-needed infrastructure repairs on the Alvin campus.

The contract is for $899,480 with the project completion date set to be finished by January 2021.

Board members also:

-approved hiring of Physical Plant director

-approved hire of academic advisor

-approved changes to Local Board Policy

-approved grant application

-approved grant purchases for nursing simulation equipment and interactive display boards

-approved monthly financial reports

-heard data report on enrollment

-heard update on Continuing Education Workforce Development department

The board will have its next meeting on October 18 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
