Jefferson County
Jefferson County Commissioners Court
by Garrett Bryce
Monday, October 08, 2018

Jefferson County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to adopt a resolution concerning windstorm reform and proposed rate increases for windstorm insurance.

The resolution opposed an increase proposed by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Agency.

“TWIA announced a 10 percent rate increase effective January 1, 2019 that is in reality a 14 percent increase because of the 4 percent cost of living increases and they have already received rate increases of 81 percent since 2009,” stated the resolution. “This increase is insensitive and unnecessarily cruel when other alternatives could be investigated to prevent such hardship on policyholders.” Resolution

The commissioners court voted to extend a contract with BJ Transport Services for morgue transport services for an additional two weeks, with a new expiration date of November 28.

The commissioners court voted to approve an agreement with Griffith, Moseley, Johnson & Associates, Inc. for grant administration and management services related to the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery Program.

The commissioners court voted to adopt a proclamation declaring the week of October 8-12 as TEEA Week in Jefferson County in recognition of the Jefferson County Extension Education Association.

The commissioners court voted to adopt a proclamation declaring the week of October 7-13 as National 4-H Week in Jefferson County.

All action items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Commissioners Brent Weaver and Everette “Bo” Alfred absent. Agenda

During the meeting, the commissioners court heard a presentation regarding Ride to Recovery Rebuilding Port Arthur. Listen (26:16)
