Derek Prince becomes first Texan in over 20 years elected to American Health Care Association Board
Press Release
Wednesday, October 10, 2018

Hard-work pays off for former nursing home CNA, now CEO of HMG Healthcare

(AUSTIN) — Derek Prince — who began his career as a Certified Nurse Assistant 20 years ago — today became the first Texan in over 20 years to be elected to the American Health Care Association Board of Directors.

Prince is the President and CEO of Woodlands-based HMG Healthcare. HMG Healthcare operates 20 long term care facilities in Texas and Kansas, and one assisted living facility in Texas.

Prince plans to use his time on the board to address the workforce crisis that has left Texas nursing homes reeling from 97 percent turnover rates for CNAs.

“As a former CNA myself, I understand the important role they play as the front-line care givers to our frail and elderly,” Prince said. “I am eager to begin work on recruiting nurses and retaining nurses for long term care facilities in Texas as a board member of AHCA.”

Prince has served on the Texas Health Care Association Board of Directors since 2005. He earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University after earning a Bachelor of Science in Applied Gerontology with an emphasis on Long Term Care Administration.

‚ÄčThe American Health Care Association is a non-profit federation of affiliate state health organizations, together representing more than 13,500 non-profit and for-profit nursing facility, assisted living, developmentally-disabled, and subacute care providers that care for approximately one million elderly and disabled individuals each day.
