Washington D.C.
Culberson Applauds Legislation to Save Patients Money on Prescription Drugs
News Release
Monday, October 15, 2018

Washington D.C. –  On Wednesday, President Trump signed legislation to end pharmacy gag clauses, which have prevented pharmacists from telling patients when they could pay less for prescription drugs, on both Medicare and private insurance plans. The House passed this legislation on September 25, 2018.

Congressman John Culberson (TX-07) released the following statement:

“Every American needs and deserves to know if they’re getting the best prices on their prescription drugs. Many of our neighbors in the Seventh District have struggled to afford their lifesaving medications because of needlessly high drug prices. This legislation helps patients have better control of their health care decisions.”

In 2017, the Food and Drug Administration approved more generic drug applications than ever before. Congressman Culberson supports these efforts to provide lower cost drug options and is a co-sponsor of H.R. 2212, the CREATES Act of 2017, which allows for expedited approval of and market entry for generic drugs.
