Fort Bend County
Sugar Land City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, October 17, 2018

Sugar Land City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to adopt the city's legislative agenda for the 86th Session of the Texas Legislature to include special called sessions of the legislature and the interim.

The agenda's priorities include supporting legislation that allows for locally elected officials to make decisions that are beneficial of city residents, and opposing legislation that is detrimental to the city's ability to pursue citizen priorities or respond to local citizen concerns.

The agenda also supported legislation that reduces the overall tax burden on residents and businesses without reducing funding for public safety services and other services on which residents depend and expect.

The city council voted to authorize the publication of a notice of intent to issue certificates of obligation.

The city plans to issue certificates of obligation to fund the city's FY2018-2019 capital improvement projects.

Projects total $7,933,000 for FY2018 and $14,146,000 for FY2019. The city plans to issue a total of $23,500,000 in bonds.

The city council voted to approve an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for right-of-way procurement for the State Highway 6 Widening Project extending north of Brooks Street to Lexington Boulevard.

Under the agreement, TxDOT will provide additional non-local funding for the project, eliminating the city's cost share for acquiring right-of-way.

The city council voted to approve an amended advance funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation regarding the Highway 6 Widening Project.

All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Council Member Amy Mitchell Absent. Agenda
