Press Release
Wednesday, October 17, 2018

GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS - ARToberFEST - Galveston’s premier juried fine arts Festival - will transform historic downtown Postoffice Street into an open air gallery bursting with color and culture – showcasing the work of over 125 vendors from throughout the United States. Presented by The Grand 1894 Opera House, the festival will take place Saturday, October 20, 10am -6pm; and Sunday, October 21, 11am -5pm; and will represent 14 different forms of artistic media. The event will be held in the heart of Galveston’s Downtown Cultural Arts District on Postoffice Street between 20th and 23rd Streets.

Special highlights of the festival include live entertainment, select Farmers’ Market vendors, the Young Collector’s Gallery and a Kids Creative Zone. Special entertainers will include Readaye Carl deCuir and Wayne D. Holt. deCruir will be performing  with his calypso-style guitar. Look forward to enjoying well-placed twang and good old rock-n-roll music.  Holt, recognized for his diverse repertoire, has performed from New York to Nashville, Europe, the Caribbean and beyond.  Playing a classical guitar, attendees can enjoy everything from Beatles to Sinatra-style swing music. Also performing are two popular local singers and guitarists - Danny Kristensen and Ryan Guidry. Look forward to hearing entertainers perform between 3-5pm, both Saturday and Sunday, at venues on the festival grounds.

Again this year, youngsters are sure to have a fun time, too!  The Kids Creative Zone – an interactive art activities area will be set up near The Grand 1894 Opera House – on the 21st and Postoffice Street block. Your children and grand-children can look forward to creating their own masterpiece to take home, with activities led by high school students.  In addition, there will be a special Young Collector’s Gallery.  Open to children only, the Young Collector’s Gallery will showcase works by kids –for kids! The artwork will be priced at $5 per piece –to encourage youngsters to begin their own art collection.  This special gallery will be open from 12 noon – 3pm both Saturday and Sunday. It’s important to note that all the art for the Young Collector’s Gallery was created and donated by the LaMarque High School Art Department, with proceeds dedicated from gallery sales to support the Daisy’s Friends Fund at The Grand 1894 Opera House. (This project provides funding for disadvantaged students to be able to attend a Serious Fun Children’s Series Performance at The Grand.)
