Brazoria County Commissioners Court Issues Proclamations

Brazoria County Commissioners Court recently presented proclamations recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Alzheimer's Awareness Month, Texas Extension Education Association Week and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Breast Cancer Awareness:

Commissioners Court proclaimed October 2018 as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month” in Brazoria County. Commissioners Court urges all Brazoria County women and men, government agencies, private businesses, nonprofit organizations, and all other interested groups to join in activities that will increase awareness and prevention of breast cancer. Over More than 260,000 women and approximately 2,600 men will likely be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

Alzheimer’s Awareness:

November 2018 was proclaimed as "Alzheimer Awareness Month" in Brazoria County by Commissioners' Court. Alzheimer's, a neurodegenerative disease that results in the loss of brain cells and their connections, affects 5.5 million Americans, more than 350,000 people on the Texas Gulf Coast, and 9,803 people in Brazoria county alone.

The Court encourages citizens to join them in commending the Brazoria County Alzheimer's Awareness Project for working through education and collaboration to create awareness and encourage early detection of Alzheimer's disease in our community.

EEA:

Commissioners' Court recognized October 8th - 14th as "Texas Extension Education Association Week" in Brazoria County. The Texas Extension Education Association of Brazoria County believes strong families are basic to the well-being of Texas. The Association has educational programs that address critical needs impacting Texas families and communities and see education as a lifelong learning process. Texas Extension Education Association cooperates with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service to attain mutual goals.

Domestic Violence Awareness:

In recognition of the important work done by domestic violence programs, the Brazoria County Commissioners' Court proclaimed the month of October as "Domestic Violence Awareness Month" in Brazoria County.

All citizens are urged to actively support programs that are working towards eradicating domestic violence, improving victim safety and holding perpetrators of domestic abuse accountable for their actions.
