GEDPGalveston Economic Development Partnership today held its seventh annual Economic Development Summit at the new Aggie Special Event Center within the campus of Texas A&M University at Galveston.

Over 300 attendees representing more than 50 businesses, corporations and institutions gathered to review development and opportunities in Galveston and Galveston County in 2018 and going forward.

GEDP President Jeff Sjostrom welcomed the group and thanked Texas A&M at Galveston for hosting the event in their new facility, thanking Colonel Mike Fossum, General Bill McClain and their entire team.

Victor Pierson, GEDP chair moderated the first of four panel discussions on the day’s agenda. Participants on the panels included leaders from county and city governments, education, banking, the port authority, medicine and science, heavy industry and information technology. Galveston Mayor Jim Yarbrough and League City Mayor Pat Hallisey were on hand to offer their perspectives as the leaders of two of the cities in Galveston County dealing with the advantages and challenges of economic growth.

Highlights of the day included having Texas Senator Larry Taylor, Robert Kaplan, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and Chuck Wemple, executive director of the Houston-Galveston Area Council bringing the broader perspective on Galveston County’s future growth to the discussions.
