Texas high-speed train named among top North American infrastructure projects
Press Release
Thursday, October 25, 2018

DALLAS – The Texas high-speed train has been named among the 100 top North American infrastructure projects, hailed as a “dynamic and innovative change agent” that will provide jobs, economic benefits and a productive and reliable transportation option.

CG/LA, a national infrastructure advocacy group, recognized the Texas train in its Strategic 100 North American Infrastructure Report, released this week at a leadership forum in Dallas. The Strategic 100 report identifies the “most imaginative and transformative” projects across 12 foundational infrastructure sectors.

The report called the train connecting Houston and North Texas a crucial option “in advancing public and business interests,” generating $36 billion in direct economic impact over 25 years, creating 10,000 jobs each year of construction and 1,500 permanent jobs when operational.

The high-speed train, developed by Texas Central, is an economic catalyst for prosperity and transit-oriented development, “set to take advantage of domestic strength in labor, technology, and materials…to contribute to the local and national economy,” the report said.

Like the other projects, the Texas train offers “top flight engineering, ground-breaking uses for cutting-edge technology and financial or policy innovation, serving as a symbol for who we are and what we can be,” said Norman F. Anderson, president and CEO of CG/LA Infrastructure Inc., a firm that focuses on infrastructure project development worldwide.

The Texas project – a 200 mph train that will link the nation’s 4th and 5th largest economies in 90 minutes, with a midway stop in the Brazos Valley – is led by Texas investors and will not take state or federal grants for construction or operations.

“Texas Central is thrilled about the excitement the high-speed train and its development are generating with the nation’s infrastructure landscape, and proud to be recognized as a top project of national significance,” said Texas Central CEO Carlos Aguilar.

The Strategic 100 report is the product of a focused, six-month research and analysis project undertaken annually by CG/LA. Te list, presented at the 10th North American Infrastructure Leadership Forum in Dallas, is a source of practical intelligence on projects coming to markets across all sectors and have support from citizens, elected officials and business leaders to move forward.

“These projects are game changers,” the report said, important “for job creation, business development, long-term investment and the critical inputs that citizens demand, mobility and health, along with opportunities.”

Other North Texas projects on the list are the Cotton Belt Regional Rail, the D2 Subway, LBJ East Interstate 635 and the Trinity Lakes TOD Station.

Texas Central is developing a new high-speed train that will connect North Texas, the Brazos Valley and Houston, using proven, world-class technology. The 90-minute trip will provide a safe, reliable and productive transportation alternative. The company’s market-led approach is backed by investors, not government grants, a new business model for infrastructure advances. Texas Central and its affiliated entities will be responsible for the system’s design, finance, construction, operation and maintenance. See more at
