Friday, October 26, 2018

The Posh Xanadu, a Semi-Submersible Accommodation Vessel, arrived at Gulf Copper Dry-Dock and Rig Repair in Galveston on October 20.

The Xanadu has a gross weight of 35,284 tons and is 400 feet long by 148 feet wide. The vessel was assisted by several Bay Houston Towing tugboats, and will be lifted out of the water this weekend onto Gulf Copper's dry-dock for work including thruster repair, steel replacement, gangway height adjustment and hull painting.

The Posh Xanadu is a DP3 Flotel that can accommodate 750 people. The purpose of a Flotel is to accommodate those working on an offshore structure, such as an oil rig, walking across a built in bridge to eat, sleep or relax. The vessel includes movie rooms, conference rooms, offices, 750 berths and workout rooms.

Gulf Copper will have 60 men working on the vessel and it will be at the company's yard for 3-4 weeks.

The vessel was assisting the Chevron Big Foot drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico before it arrived in Galveston.

Photos of the vessel were provided by Robert Mihovil.
