Company OnStage: November 2018 Auditions

HOUSTON, TEXAS - Company OnStage is holding auditions for our third round of productions for our 2018-2019 season on Sunday and Monday, November 11 and 12, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. at 4930 West Bellfort, Houston, Texas 77035. No appointment is required, but please arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. Headshots and resumes are appreciated but not required. Auditions consist of cold readings from the scripts and there are no prepared monologues.
 

We will be auditioning two productions, one from our Young Audience Series and one from our Evening Series. 

YOUNG AUDIENCE/ALL AGES PRODUCTION 

CINDERELLA GOES DISCO

Written by Shubert Fendrich

Produced by Special Arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc., Englewood, CO

Directed by Renata Smith

Performance Dates: January 9, 16, 26, 27, February 2, 9, 2019

Rehearsals: Sunday and Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m., with variation as needed, beginning approximately December 2, 2018 

CASTING REQUIREMENTS:

All Roles Are Available

Open Ethnicity

4-6 Actors and Actresses, 2 - 3 F/ 2 - 3 M. All actors will be playing multiple roles. There are no roles for children under age 10 in this production. 

Cinderella (doubles as Beauty in “Beauty and the Beast” and Sleeping Beauty in “Sleeping Beauty”)

Persephone (The Fairy Godmother)

Glumora (Cinderella’s Stepmother, and doubles as the Mother in “Beauty and the Beast” and Hortensia in “Sleeping Beauty”)

Prince Charming (Doubles as Beast in “Beauty and the Beast” and as the Prince in “Sleeping Beauty”) 

SYNOPSIS: This wildly entertaining and humorous adaptation of the classic story is an audience participation experience that combines three traditional fairy tales in a most unusual fashion. The Prince has invited all the kingdom’s young ladies to a disco ball at the palace, but poor Cinderella is convinced she cannot go because she has nothing to wear. The Fairy Godmother saves the day, telling Cinderella the stories of “Sleeping Beauty” and “Beauty and the Beast,” boosting her confidence. Her appearance at the ball is the stuff of fairy tales. 

AUDITIONS FOR THIS PRODUCTION WILL CONSIST OF COLD READING FROM THE SCRIPT AND PHYSICALITY EXERCISES, AS ACTORS PERFORM MORE THAN ONE ROLE AND DISCO DANCING IS INVOLVED.

BECKET, OR THE HONOUR OF GOD

SYNOPSIS: King Henry II installs his longtime friend Thomas Becket as the Archbishop of Canterbury. When the Church proves to be Becket’s true calling rather than being the King’s lackey, a rift results that changes the course of history. Becket was produced to great acclaim in London, New York, and Paris, and the 1964 film adaptation starring Peter O’Toole as Henry II and Richard Burton as Thomas Becket was nominated for several Academy Awards™. 

THIS PRODUCTION WILL CONSIST OF COLD READING FROM THE SCRIPT.

The Company OnStage Theater was founded in 1977 by Joyce Randall-McNally, a former associate director of the Alley Theater, along with her husband Hank McNally. After being displaced from its home of 33 years at the now defunct Westbury Square shopping center, Company OnStage has moved to its new performance home on the grounds of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church.
