News Release
Friday, November 02, 2018

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 6400 Martin Luther King Boulevard about 4:35 p.m. on Thursday (November 1).

The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer M. Mathews reported:

The bicyclist was traveling westbound in the 5300 block of Southlea when he turned southbound into the middle lane of Martin Luther King Boulevard. According to a witness, he may have been startled by a vehicle approaching behind from him in the same lane on Martin Luther King Boulevard.  The bicyclist then made a sudden turn into the far left lane without yielding to vehicular traffic and was struck by a black Dodge Charger.  The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Charger remained at the scene where he was questioned and released by investigators.

The investigation is continuing.
