Galveston ISD Board of Trustees

The Galveston Independent School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday voted unanimously to elect Anthony Brown as Board President.

Brown replaces Dr. Matthew Hay as president. Hay had served in the position for 6 years, but declined serving another term leading the board.

The board voted 6-0, with David O'Neal, Jr. abstaining, to elect Johnny Smecca as vice president and unanimously voted to elect Monica Wagner as board secretary.

During the meeting, Wagner and Shae Jobe were sworn in as the newly-elected trustees for Districts 1-A and 3-C, respectively. Brown was sworn in for another term in District 4-D. All three were unopposed. Wagner replaced Dr. Jeff Temple on the board and Jobe stepped in for Mary Cazares.

The board voted unanimously to adopt the district's legislative priorities for the upcoming Texas Legislative Session.

The board voted unanimously to approve the sale of approximately 10 acres of property to the City of Galveston for $100,000, as recommended.

The board voted unanimously to approve an interagency agreement with Upward Hope Academy for educational services to students in a Drop-Out Prevention/Recovery Program.

The board voted unanimously to approve the purchase of a new bus wash for the Transportation Department.

The board voted unanimously to approve the purchase of seven new school buses at a cost not to exceed $640,000. The purchase includes four 77-seat buses, one 30-seat wheelchair compatible bus, and two 14-seat Type A buses.

All other action items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
