Chad Richardson will discuss his book Batos, Bolillos, Pochos, and Pelados, which examines the people and culture of the South Texas borderlands. Richardson first published this book in 1999. Now extensively revised and updated it covers developments since 2000. This book is filled with topics such as the experiences of migrant workers, undocumented immigration, life in the colonies, the history of Anglo-Hispanic relations in the Valley, Asian and African American residents of South Texas, and much more.  Richardson paints a detailed picture of Deep South Texas society by using the voices of several hundred Valley residents through surveys, statistical data gathered from interviews, and touching personal stories. This easy-to-read and interesting book offers an excellent introduction to life and various socioeconomic relationships that exist within and between various population groups in the Rio Grande Valley.
